Project Description

The project is implemented by GIZ within the Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE II) programme, part of the broader Training and Sustainable Growth for Decent Jobs initiative supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Within this framework, the project focuses on enhancing employment opportunities and increasing female participation in the creative sector, particularly in the field of technical filmmaking, where women remain significantly underrepresented.

The intervention targets Edo, Enugu, and Plateau States and aims to address gender-specific barriers that limit women’s access to technical roles such as cinematography, sound production, lighting, and post-production. Through a combination of labour market analysis, capacity development and practical training, the project seeks to strengthen women’s employability while supporting the development of more inclusive and demand-driven skills training pathways in Nigeria’s rapidly growing creative industry.

Provided Services

m4edu provides an integrated package of analytical, training and institutional strengthening services, including:

  • Employment and Labour Market Analysis (ELMA) assessing women’s participation in technical filmmaking in Edo, Enugu and Plateau States, identifying labour market demand, skills gaps, barriers to entry and opportunities for increasing female employment.
  • Design and delivery of a Training-of-Trainers programme for Master Trainers in technical filmmaking occupations.
  • Implementation of hands-on technical filmmaking training for 120 women (including women with disabilities) across the three target states, combined with mentorship and internship opportunities with industry partners.
  • Institutional strengthening of the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub (VUCH) to support the establishment of a sustainable training academy for technical filmmaking skills, including gender-sensitive curricula and digital learning tools.
